The parents
offered an $80,000 reward for the return of their daughter Cédrika Provencher,
9, last seen Tue. Jul 31 07 at about 8 p.m. ET. The description says, she was
wearing a green skirt, flip flops and a red bike helmet, in the city of
Trois-Rivières, Que.. The Surete Quebec have continued to follow up on 3,000
leads generated from their billboard and publicity campaign.
As the fourth week of Cédrika’s disappearance began
the father received ‘balm for the soul’ from reports that she was seen alive in
the company of a man somewhere in eastern Quebec, and police in the eastern
region of the vast province locked down traffic to search. Earlier in the
investigation Cédrika’s mother, Karine Fortier, said, Someone somewhere knows
something, making a tearful plea through the media, Aug 13 07, for her missing
daughter,
The facts remain much the same as were initially
reported, except in the past few days the number of young girls approached
about finding a strange dog grew from three to five. In the minutes leading up
to Cédrika's disappearance, she was asking around for a dog, which she doesn't
own.
Three teens found her bicycle on the street half
hour after she was last seen. The teens left Cédrika's bike behind a garbage
bin, where police found it Wed. Police
are putting together a description of a man based on what another girl
reported, that he, "asked her to help him find his dog," earlier the same
day. Another report after the girl's disappearance put a 'strange man' trying
to induce two young girls on the previous Sat., a babysitter (13) and her
charge (6) into 'swimming.' Police have said, "we only have a missing
person," and are into a "targeted search" in the area using a
canine search unit and helicopters.
UPDATED FROM REPORTS MADE UP Mar 18 08 - As of this updated outline, the McCann parents received an apology for libel from two British tabloids plus over one million in award, based on the false reports, dozens made over many weeks, that McCanns had anything to do with the disappearance of their daughter, Madeline McCann. The tabloid reports became unbridled speculation based on false accusations, which the judge in the case found perplexing in the damning nature of the accusations. Meanwhile, continuing with the lack of police progress from last year, identification of blood evidence obtained from the child’s room was inconclusive. Madeleine McCann disappeared from the holiday villa in Portugal, apparently during a 45 minute period between check-ups the evening of May 03 07. (TIMELINE)
The suspicion has fallen on several occasions onto different people and then
the Portuguese police announced themselves at a dead-end. Not since the murder
of Jon Benet Ramsey in Boulder, Colorado, has a young girl been the riveting centre of attention like
this. The Ramsey girl was raped and murdered on the spot where they found her.
No amount of investigation has solved the case. A series of spurious
accusations and strange confessions haunt the investigation to this day, and
this case of Madeleine McCann has
the same heart-wrenching qualities and a terribly prurient side in earlier
speculation she was captured by a ring of pedophiles. The family made a plea to
Rome (they are Catholic) and asked then Prime Minister Tony Blair to intercede,
and then, lately, the family has been frozen in the spotlight of investigation.
No further leads or disclosure have been reported, and now the questions
include whether the girl was murdered in the room where she slept. On the other hand, occasional news reports have people reporting the appearance of Madeline in this or that French resort, usually near the Swiss border.
